The ever-increasing share of multinational chains has been a typical feature of the domestic furniture retail market. According to the FURNITURE 2010 study performed by INCOMA GfK more than 65 % Czech households prefer large area specialized shops when shopping furniture and household accessories. However 75 % do not stick to one furniture shop and tend to change them. The most popular furniture shopping chains include ASKO, IKEA, JYSK, KIKA, MÖBELIX and SCONTO.
The average annual expenses of households, who purchased furniture or household accessories during the last three years, have been almost CZK17,000. In the average 2/3 of this amount have been expended on furniture purchase and the remaining 1/3 on the purchase of household appliances. During the last three years most Czech households purchased the bedroom furniture, followed by three-piece suites, wardrobes and bathroom furniture. For furniture purchase rational decision-making is important. 75 % buyers compare offers in various shops; more than 2/3 consumers enjoy reading catalogues and leaflets of furniture shops. Design and workmanship quality are the most important criteria for the furniture selection. The price is an important factor, however not a decisive one, which determines the goods selection.
