Czech Construction Forum 2010

The Czech Construction Forum 2010 has registered a record participation; a very opened discussion resulted in participants´ appeal on the government to guarantee a long-term legislation condition frame for construction business.

This 6th year of the Czech Construction Forum was held on 3rd March 2010 in Prague hotel Olympik Artemis. Interest in this event highly surpassed the previous ones both in quantity and quality of audience – more than 250 delegates gathered there. According to feedbacks at the conference it have never happened before to bring together so presentable and numerous auditorium of key representatives of construction industry in Czech Republic.

The opening presentations of representatives of state, banking and entrepreneurs associations’ brought characteristics of main problems of today’s construction business but also solution suggestions. Especially great was the response on presentation of Pavel Řežábek, Member of the Czech Banking Council, who spoke about economy development and important risks we can expect if political representatives don’t fundamentally change their behavior, don’t avoid populistic actions and keep on making partial ill-considered steps with potential negative long-lasting consequences. With reference to a quotation of Tomáš Baťa the speakers agreed with participants that it is impossible to face crisis with sanation and funding. The state should rather create a legislation frame, which will set equal conditions and opportunities for market participants and will be a long-term guarantee of predictable business environment.

Even Rostislav Vondruška, Minister for local development, highlited in his presentation on residential construction issues and its further development that he understands the state supportive role rather in creating guarantees in legislative environment than in funding. Also the presentation of deputy minister of transport, Tomáš Kaas, focused on principles of transportation infrastructure development in coming years was very interesting. In the following panel discussion moderated by Daniela Drtiniová from Czech TV, many representatives of construction companies have openly expressed their opinion on the current state of construction business and gave strict remarks to the activity of state administration and fractionalism of the construction agenda in many ministries.

The conference participants unanimously insisted on formulation of an official forum conclusion that would be claimed in the relationship with government, ministries and Parliament of Czech republic. This official proclamation will be made on the basics of the conference records and published in the next few days. These conclusions will be introduced not only to the conference participants but also to the wide expert public.

Program of the afternoon part splitted the audience into four parallel sections duscussing specific questions, which are now topical for construction companies. These included legislation for submitting orders in the construction market, issues of cost management in recession, developer’s projects in residential construction industry and construction materials for new ways of construction.
